Vornado Proudly Celebrates Earth Day: April 22, 2011
Tenants and buildings across the Vornado portfolio are participating in a wide variety of efforts towards achieving "A Billion Acts of Green" in sponsorship of Earth Day 2011. As a company, Vornado participated in "Earth Hour" on March 26 by dimming lights at major office and retail properties. This week, many of Vornado's tenants participated in electronics recycling drives, bringing in used cell phones, digital cameras and other small accessories for eco-friendly recycling performed by our haulers. This effort will continue periodically throughout the year, so be on the lookout for upcoming electronics recycling drives at your building.
Showing support for Earth day can occur year round. For more information on getting your office involved in the Earth Day cause, please go to http://www.earthday.org/earth-day-2011.
New York Office:
As part of Mayor Bloomberg's PlaNYC2030, the City of New York has passed a number of energy/sustainability laws for commercial buildings over 50,000 SF. Local Law 84, the "Benchmarking Law" mandates landlords to submit their utility consumption information to the city in 2011 using the EPA's Energy Star Portfolio Manager. Local Law 87 requires landlords to conduct energy efficiency and retrocommissioning reports. These tools are intended to help compare building energy performance and focus attention on underperforming or energy intensive buildings. Vornado's sustainability team has been using the Energy Star tool for several years, allowing us to be ahead of this regulation. Go to www.nyc.gov/ggbp to learn more.

Vornado/ Charles E. Smith:
Vornado/Charles E. Smith continues as a leader in energy efficiency and energy management. This year, we are the largest participant in the Arlington Green Games—a friendly competition in Arlington County, Virginia, that supports our tenants' sustainability initiatives and improves our own sustainability business practices. We also expanded our sustainability programs in late 2010 with our first LEED for Existing Building certification, bringing our total LEED certified spaces to almost 2 million square feet.
San Francisco:
555 California Street, together with 315 Montgomery Street, recently submitted their application for LEED - EB certification, anticipating a late April certification. The 1.5 million square foot tower stands to become one of the largest, most prominent LEED-certified buildings on the West coast. Various components of certification efforts include extensive Indoor Air Quality improvements we recently commissioned new Building Automation System.

Retail:
Development is underway for a 1MW solar panel installation on the roof of the Bergen Town Center mall in Paramus, NJ. The solar panels will supply renewable energy for all common area energy use at the mall. With available Solar Renewable Energy Credits (SRECs) and incentives in New Jersey, the project will serve as a pilot for future solar projects across our portfolio.
BMS:
Our national cleaning company continues to lead the industry in employing eco-friendly, health conscious equipment and techniques at Vornado properties.
ec-H2O™ Technology electrically converts water into a multi purpose cleaning solution and reduces environmental impact compared to traditional cleaning chemicals and methods. Scrubbers equipped with ec-H2O technology scrub three times longer with a single tank of water using 70% less water than conventional scrubbing methods.

Waterless Stripping Scrubbing Machine has the ability to dry scrub and remove several layers of floor wax/finish without the use of water or strippers. This process should virtually eliminate the use of strippers to remove floor wax/finish. Furthermore, this will reduce slip and fall accidents for both workers and occupants.
